JOB DETAIL

Introduction
The Trainee Inspector: Dangerous Goods role promotes aviation safety and security and a culture of the safe transportation of dangerous goods by air within the aviation industry.
This roles is required to regulate, monitor and enforce Dangerous Goods standards and ICAO SARP’s and ensure compliance with Part 92.

Oversight:
Meet oversight requirements as scheduled by the M: DG.
Conducts the process and administration of the approval
of air operators, airports, aviation training organisations
and dangerous goods packing and transport entities under
the guidance of an inspector
Conducts the process and administration in the evaluation
and accreditation of dangerous goods instructors under the
guidance of an inspector.
Conduct inspections under the guidance of an inspector
Compiles reports relating to all functions and submits for approval
Monitors corrective action plans and ensures that they are
adhered to.
Makes recommendations to clients in order for them to improve on operating standards.Administration:
General office administration in support of inspectors
Document management and maintenance of database.
Compiles and submits correspondence relating to inspections
Research on National and international trends when required for new dangerous goods that have not been dealt with in the past
Reviews applications for exemptions and special approvals for dangerous goods, prepares pack and makes recommendations to Directors for final approval
Liaise with Finance department regarding invoicing.
Classify findings into level of severity and compiles reports

Enforcement of regulations :
Prepares and motivates recommendations and submits to
legal for enforcement
Evaluate client Oversight action plan for compliance,
monitor adherence and report on outcomes
Conducts the process and administration in the
Investigation of dangerous goods incidents and accidents.

Communication and Safety Promotion to the public:
Communicates the role and image of SACAA to stakeholders.
Provide industry feedback to the Authority.
Promote aviation safety and security by proposing
improvements to operational requirements.
Organise workshops and dangerous goods forums.

Approval of Operators/ Airports/ATO/ Dangerous Goods packing/transport entities documentation:
Assess Foreign Operator Permit (FOP) Applicant’s
documents in terms of Dangerous Goods Regulations
Assess and recommend improvements to Operators/
Airports/ ATO/ Dangerous Goods packing/transport entities
FOM/MOP or propose necessary amendments thereto.
Assess, evaluate and provides reports on dangerous
goods training programs to inspectors for acceptance

Development of documentation and regulations:
Research, develop and propose the specific standards to
be applied in the area of dangerous goods operations to inspectors for acceptance
Suggest amendment to regulations pertaining to dangerous goods as required.
Amend guidance material as required.

Requirements

Relevant Tertiary Education, Dangerous Goods or Aviation Security Courses

3 Years Experience in Aviation or 3 years regulatory knowledge
